RPEA In The News: Advocating for Retirees on Utilities, Pensions, and Health Care
The Retired Public Employees Association (RPEA) continues to be a strong voice for New York’s nearly 500,000 state and local government retirees.
On September 25, the Syracuse Post-Standard published a guest opinion by RPEA Executive Director Tom Tatun warning that rising utility bills pose a serious hardship for retirees on fixed incomes. The Op-Ed calls on state leaders to act proactively to protect older New Yorkers.
That same week, Tom appeared on CBS6 Albany to discuss RPEA’s broader advocacy priorities, including:
Preventing unaffordable utility rate increases
Raising the pension re-entry earnings cap from $35,000 to $50,000 so retirees can return to public service without penalty
Restoring 100 days of skilled nursing coverage for retirees on Medicare
Strengthening pension cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) to help retirees keep pace with inflation
