RPEA testifies in support of maintaining NYC retiree health insurance
Executive Director Ed Farrell testified on Monday, January 9 in front of the New York City Council Committee on Civil Service and Labor to urge them to maintain Administration Code Section 12-126 in its current form. The First District Appellate Court unanimously agreed with the Supreme Court that the Administrative Code protects the health insurance currently available to retirees.
Public employees work their entire careers with the promise and expectation that when they retire, their existing benefits will be preserved. Health benefits should not be diminished for those who have already retired, are on fixed incomes, and were promised the care they currently receive in retirement.
RPEA will continue to advocate for the preservation of benefits that public services retirees were promised and have earned.
