Retirees Prevail in Budget Resolutions
Retired Public Employees Association (RPEA) President Jack McPadden commended the Legislature for rejecting the Governor’s budget proposals which would have adversely impacted retirees in the New York State Health Insurance Plan (NYSHIP). The Governor had proposed to cut the Medicare reimbursement to NYSHIP enrollees and to totally eliminate the additional reimbursements for Income Related Monthly Adjustments Amounts, commonly known as IRMAA.
McPadden stated, “We commend the Senate and Assembly for rejecting these ill-conceived proposals which would reduce benefits currently available to retirees. The Legislature had previously rejected similar attempts in prior budgets and we thank them for their continued support. Retirees are not to be viewed as a revenue source for the state budget”.
